Luck was not a lady...but there was cake!

We’re still at sea.  The day after tomorrow we’ll be in Morocco.  The first day back at sea was nothing special.  The second day, however was my Diabetes Day!!  So, in order to celebrate mom “sent” me cake.  It was delivered to our group of friends up in the dining hall (I knew it was coming because I had to tell them where I was sitting).  When they brought it out though, they kept singing Happy Birthday.  It tried to explain that it wasn’t my birthday, but they kept going.  The rest of the dining hall joined in as did the people at my table who knew very well it was not my birthday, but oh well.  The cake was absolutely gynromous.  We think it was probably about 18 inches in diameter.  Here I was, afraid that we wouldn’t have enough for everyone at our overstuffed table.  We ended up handing it out to people we knew that walked by.  This included many of our teachers and their families and the doctor on the ship.  Doctor Milt, upon receiving the cake asked whose birthday it was and how old I was.  When we explained to him what the cake was for he just began to laugh and said “that’s a poor reason to celebrate.”  I disagree with him, but oh well.

That night was the crew talent show.  I didn’t know just how talented our crew was.  They danced, sang and flared.  Possibly the most incredible flares I have ever seen.  And they were doing it while the boat was rocking a bit.  It was a lot of fun to see the people who have been serving us all this time show us their talents.  Of course there were those who stole the show.  Like Alan from the dining hall who played the drums, danced and flared.  Now most girls on the ship are in love with him.  It was thoroughly amusing the next day at lunch when they all were flirting with him.  When the talent show ended it was time for casino night.  Everyone got 10 tickets each of which was worth $100 at a table.  There were all sorts of games, but we spent most of our time at the black jack table.  I lost just about every time and with only 5 tickets left, we went to bingo where I lost again.  I used my last three tickets to put in the raffle for a massage and more internet minutes…which I also lost.  Definitely not my lucky night.  Justin blames me for his bad luck because he was up 30 tickets then he talked to me and lost them all.

The next day there were no classes.  We all got to sleep in which actually surprised us because the last time we had no classes they pulled a lifeboat drill on us in the morning so we didn’t actually get to sleep in…we were all expecting that again.  Throughout the day there was the auction to raise money for their annual fund.  The money goes to scholarships and things like that.  There were some really cool things up for bid, but I wasn’t willing to spend so much money.  They not only had objects, but there were trips you could go on and stuff.  One trip to the doctor’s cabin in the mountains of Utah went for around $2000.  I didn’t go to the live auction, but it was on the TV, so I watched it from my room while I did home work.  I did home work just about all day until the evening when I decided to give myself a break and hung out with a few people until I went to bed.  I didn’t get nearly as much work done yesterday as I thought I was going to, but I’m a little less stressed about it.  I have a test today at 2:55 in my sociology class and I have a paper due the day after Morocco and another paper and a test on the 17th, then it’s time for finals for the other two classes and time to pack and such.  Today I signed up for a bridge tour finally, so I’ll be seeing the bridge on the 17th.  I’m pretty excited.

Also, if Liz reads this, or if someone talks to Liz, could you get her to send me her mailing address?  I have a postcard for her and I want to send it, but I have the wrong address.  Thanks!
