The last few days have been a whirlwind. We only have four days left on the ship and you can tell that people are getting more and more conflicted about coming home. I think once exams are done people will not wan to leave at all anymore. Packing hasn’t been going very well. After that last post, I did pack a bit, but I realized that once I packed too much of my suitcase it would no longer fit under my bed, so I decided to stop. I’ll probably do some more tomorrow since I haven’t in a while and I really want to make sure I can fit it all. I should, but it’d be nice to know for sure.
Nothing all that exciting has been happening lately. Yesterday Emily came into my room to tell me that they had just finished making cookies and they were still warm, so Katie, Kaitlyn and I ran up to deck 7 and each got 3 cookies! They were so good! (Yes, this is the best part of my week). Yesterday was the last day of class which was especially sad when my teacher for Faith and Doubt was crying, telling us that she couldn’t hold class that day and that we were all excused…turns out that her father died the night before (she’s also the one who’s daughter died earlier in the voyage). I feel so bad for her. She’s my favorite teacher on the ship. Our class stayed after she left to make her a card and we put it on her door.
Yesterday was also the Vagina Monologues performances. So you know, they weren’t real performances. We were given the monologues a long time ago and told which ones we would be reading. Then none of us looked at them until the night before and we had no rehearsal at all. We were only going to be reading them in front of my sociology teacher’s two classes because she was scared that Eve Ensler (the author) would sue. They went well though. Mine was super short, so I was able to memorize it in 15 minutes which made mine much easier. For those of you who know the Vagina Monologues and went to them this year, I did Baptized which was the spotlight monologue this year about young women being raped in the
Last night everyone was really busy studying. It was sort of comforting to walk around the ship and hear everyone studying for the same exam or finishing their essays for the same class. Global Studies exam was this morning and our essays were due at the same time for Global Studies. It was a stressful time, but I’m hopeful. The rest of today was a study day, as is all of tomorrow. Carly, Katie and I went on our bridge tour today, which was cool. I got to sit in the captain’s chair. It was a nice study break. Tonight apparently they’re going to make me do a one woman show of “the good monologues” from Vagina Monologues because we all just need a break and it should be amusing at least. We’re also planning on having a break to get cookies on deck 7 tonight. Other than that, I’ve been reading and studying. I have one take home essay exam due Wednesday and I have an exam on Wednesday.
I am extremely excited for the last two days when we have nothing to do but pack and hang out. Today we found out that there is a hurricane nearby, so they are trying to avoid the waves as much as possible, but they say that as we get closer it will get more and more rough. I’m hoping we’re not all seasick for our last couple days together. It’s just about dinner time now. I’m excited that I am now only 3 hours ahead now. However, I keep waking up an hour before my alarm is supposed to go off, wide awake. Tomorrow I’m planning on sleeping in a little bit (meaning until 10 or until Edwin nocks on my door to clean my room) then I’ll get back to studying and writing my essay. I’ll see you all really soon!
