So, I finished all my work on time and everything. Now I think I’m still in denial about Italy being tomorrow. Last night I went to a lecture by an inter-port student (he joined us in Spain and will be leaving in Italy) who talked about what we should do and everything. Afterwards I tried to talk to him a bit in Italian, but failed miserably, but he was nice enough to continue to try to. He may meet up with us in Orvieto, but he is not sure. Today was our big exam in Global Studies which everyone on the ship has to take. It was kind of nice walking around and knowing that everyone was going through the same stress you are. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be though. I woke up at 7, ate breakfast and took the exam from 7:30-8:45.
Now, for the real reason I’m posting…to let you all know what I am doing in port over the next few days! Yay! So excited for Italy! Tomorrow morning we will once again wake up for the sunrise over Civitavecchia (sunrise is earlier this time, though…5:42am). Tomorrow after we are able to leave the ship, I will be exploring Civitavecchia with a few people, and then once some of them leave, two of us will be traveling to Tarquinia, which is North of Civitavecchia (the Italian student recommended it). Tomorrow night, is still open. Thursday I am going to Rome from 8:30am – 6:30pm (still 6 hours ahead of home). My only goal is to see the Sistine Chapel, other than that, I am still unsure. Friday: 8:30am-5:30pm I will be in Orvieto. Then, that night I will get back on the ship and go to Naples. Saturday: 9:30-12:30pm I have a city orientation of Naples, Sunday: 8:30am-12:30pm I am going to the Herculaneum (similar to Pompeii, but a little more intact still. I will try to post pictures on Friday night if I can, but if not I will try to before Croatia.
Something I realized tonight, is how weird it sounds when your teacher says things like “you’ll have an exam after Croatia”, or “your next paper, you should try and include some difference you saw between Italy and Egypt.” Also, I heard that this morning a teacher missed his class because he fell asleep out on the deck. Class here on the ship is really weird. Anyway, I’m going to go watch a movie and fall asleep early. I hope you all have a great couple days! I hear it stopped raining a bit today, I hope it continues!
Have fun and stay safe in Italy! Glad you are getting into the Sistine Chapel this time. I can't wait to hear about your italian adventures!
