Hey guys, I’m in Spain! I’m having a fantastic time! Yesterday morning we woke up early and watched the sun rise over Cadiz. The first sight of land was really exciting. The sky was nearly clear and everyone was out on the front of the boat watching and celebrating.
Then at 9am I had my first trip off the boat. I was not the first to get injured! But sadly, someone twisted her ankle walking off the gang plank. Walking on land was really weird. We all felt like we were swaying. I went on a trip to the local University where we got a tour of the University and then listened to some women talk about same-sex marriages and women’s rights in Spain. It was really interesting, but I wanted to be out enjoying Spain for my first few hours on land. But once we got back to the boat I had my chance. I went on a 3 hour walking tour around Cadiz. We got to see everything and I got a really good handle on the city. It is really small and easy to find where you’re going. The people are friendly and it seems really safe. I got my first Helado (sp?). It was tasty.
After we came back to the ship and ate some dinner (to save money). While at dinner I met someone and me, her and a girl I had met the night before went wandering around the city. We had a destination, but we didn’t care when or how we got there, so we explored. We found the beautiful beach where one of the James Bond movies was filmed (pictures to follow). We went into a few shops though and didn’t buy anything. After heading to a bar where we got a delicious chocolate desert, we headed back to the ship for an early night.
Today I went on a trip to Arcos de la Frontera and then to Ronda. They are these beautiful small towns in Andalucia. The buildings are all white and everything seems so old. I met some cool people on the trip and it took just about all day. We walked everywhere! It was so gorgeous, thought that it was worth it. Tonight I might be going salsa dancing (or maybe not) and tomorrow morning we are taking a train to Sevilla for the day. I’m sure it will be fantastic. Pictures are coming up next!
